We all need some culture in our lives right?? Thankfully my parents gave me a love of music and Broadway!

This fall I attended a CLO performance of South Pacific with some rugby girls. We had a great time.  I hadn’t been to a show since Cats or Phantom of the Opera… Approximately 16 or so years…

While out to see South Pacific, KellsBells told me her parents buy her a subscription for 3 summer shows as a Christmas gift.  And so when The Nana emailed me before Christmas asking for a few gift ideas, I added the CLO subscription to the mix.

And much to my surprise, The Nana and The GrandPa agreed to buy me said subscription!

So what am I going to see, you ask?

First off, in July:

From the CLO website:

Love Changes Everything, a song and dance celebration of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music, is directed and choreographed by Arlene Phillips. This dynamic new musical features a large and magnificent orchestra and a full company of singers and dancers. Experience the entire spectrum of human emotion through the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber featuring some of the most successful theatrical works of our time, including, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Evita and Variations, the breathtaking dance sequence featured in Song and Dance, and much more.

This show is going to be AWESOME! Andrew Lloyd Webber is amazing.

Next, in August:

Also from the CLO website:

An Andrew Lloyd Webber Masterpiece! Take an emotional journey through the final days of Jesus Christ in this powerful rock opera. This stirring musical chronicles Jesus’ meteor-like rise and ultimate death through the troubled eyes of his betrayer Judas. Both thought-provoking and tender, Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the awe-inspiring power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart. The stirring and contemporary score will hold you spellbound: “Everything’s Alright,” “I Don’t Know How To Love Him” and “Superstar.”

I’ve always wanted to see Jesus Christ Superstar… So glad I can finally see it here in Pittsburgh!

And finally, in September:

Again from the CLO website:

Book by Winnie Holzman
Based on the novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West ” by Gregory Maguire
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One – born with emerald green skin – is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for “the most complete – and completely satisfying – new musical in a long time” (USA Today).

On Broadway and around the world, WICKED has worked its magic on critics and audiences alike. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards®, WICKED is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” and “the defining musical of the decade” (The New York Times).

I’ve heard such wonderful things about Wicked. Many friends have seen it the last time it was here, so I’m happy to get to see it!

To say I’m excited about these three shows would be an extreme understatement.

Thank you, The Nana and The GrandPa for this! The only way it could be better is if The Nana still lived up here and could go with me!

30 12 2010

I’m totally in a conundrum here…

Do I want to go back and do the plunge this year? I was there in 2009. Missed 2010 because I’m a moron. (big surprise.)

I don’t miss that “Holy crap was that cold!” thing… but I do love the idea of it.

The Nana hates that I consider it, even now, but Lili thinks it’s awesome.

Anywho… The Yinz Polar Bear Plungers, are again returning to our original post-plunge home, My Living Room, this year.

This makes me so happy. Even if I don’t jump in the river. I’m happy that my friends love My Living Room as much as I do and know we have good food and good employees, and want to spend their time there.

I asked again, same as last time, for special permission to open early and I was given the okay. But that was for me to open and tend bar… I still needed someone to cook.

And my buddy Rook has agreed to show up hours early to cook while I bartend.

I cannot tell you how happy I am that my friends want to come to My Living Room that early on New Year’s Day. I cannot tell you how happy I am that Rook agreed to show up early and cook for my friends.

What I can tell you is that I can’t wait for New Year’s Day and the opportunity to see and tend bar for my good friends. I cannot wait for it.

I’m so happy to be able to bring the Yinz Polar Plunge group back to My Living Room.

Thank you, friends, for supporting me, and for again supporting My Living Room. You know I love it there, and that I love you all. So, thanks. It means a lot to me that you asked for this, and I’m so happy I could make it happen. I can’t wait for New Year’s Day!!

28 12 2010

I’m back in Pittsburgh. I had a wonderful almost-week in Florida with Little C, Lili, NE and The Nana and The GrandPa.

I’ll post more about that later. I took some notes 🙂

I came home to find that the postal service decided NOT to comply with my stop-mail request. For the SECOND time in TWO months. I WILL be going to the post office to find out what the problem is. I swear my post office is defective.

I have more to write, but I’m sad and tired. And I haven’t even unpacked.

I have a lot to do this week. Brewfest, redeeming gifts my parents bought me that have to be purchased here (you can’t exactly carry-on a vacuum on a plane. )

40 or so hours.

19 12 2010

Until I’m safely at HOME with Little C, Lili and NE. At that point? I WIN!!!

Is it strange that I kinda consider my parents and Lili’s house my home in the world? I don’t think so. It’s where my family is. And that’s where home is for me.

Anywho… Laundry was done today, my suitcase and all the fam’s gifts are packed. I just need to add toiletries and pack my carry-on and I’m good to go.

I decided to wear or pack some of my Woot shirts for this trip.

I think they are appropriate…

First up…

I hope Liil, and especially, my Little C, my lovely, finds the humor in this. She’s still so young, but she’s got a kick-butt sense of humor. I can’t wait to find out what she makes of this.

Second up? Holiday Turtle!!!

This is my Christmas Eve or Day shirt. It’s highly appropriate. Don’t you think? Who doesn’t love a turtle dressed like a tree? Whatevs. Little C will love it.

And, if I’m crazy, I may wear this:

Somehow, I think only Lili, and maybe NE will get this one…

But hooray for my Woot shirts. Hooray!

What really matters is that I’ll be with my family around 4 or 5 pm on Tuesday. For the holidays.

You know I love my family. So you know I’ll be uber happy to be there.

One week!

13 12 2010

Woo! I go to Florida one week from tomorrow morning.

To Little C, Lili and NE’s house.

Oh, wait! And to Dewey and Clyde’s house! I can’t wait to see my dog and cat again! I loooooove them!!!

But, based on Little C’s nearly ear-piercing  “YEAH!!!!!!!” and giggling when I asked, “Are you excited to see Aunt Claire next week?” this evening on the phone with Lili and My Little C, I think she’s excited. She knows Nana is going to be there. Er, I assume, because after I said I was visiting, she said Nana over & over again.

That lovely little lady? She LOVES her Nana. I support this, because the Nana? She’s awesome. I told Little C this, she said “Yeah.”

That girl knows her family is awesome. I love her.

So anyway, I talked to Lili and Little C. Got NE’s gift approved by Lili. Little C had no offerings when I asked what to buy daddy. I expected her to tell me “baby” or “colors” (aka crayons) but I was met with dead silence.

Gift approved. Gift to be bought in Florida.

I bought The Nana’s gift from me tonight. It was surprisingly easier than I anticipated. We’re talking 35 seconds. It was the best gift experience at a major mall. Ever. Also, The Nana, I’ll be watching you!!! You’ll get it when you get your gift.

I also bought The GrandPa another gifty. It involves birds. Woo! Birds! (The GrandPa loves birds. I win!)

All that is left is for me to buy some warm clothing (sweaters and long-sleeve shirts) for my Little C, and I really hope I don’t go crazy and buy her every warm thing I see….  I mean, she does live in Florida.

(Don’t worry, Lili, I will not buy her a Parka and snowsuit.)

And, in order to pack my enormous suitcase, (which I may have not unpacked entirely from my Thanksgiving trip… what? I may pack some Pooh & Friends things I intend to hand-down to Little C. You know, to fill the spaces in my big suitcase to hold whatever I pick up for Christmas down there in the sunny state…)

I love my family. And the biggest bonus? I get to see the CD of the family photo extravaganza we had the day after Turkey Day. According to The Nana, there are many pictures of Little C and I that will make me happy. I see make me happy as “Make Claire melt into a puddle.”

So I can’t wait. And we’ll be taking that CD to a photo-producing store ASAP.

And I will spend a ton (approx. under $20) on photos of my family.

And I will come home feeling like I am a millionaire and the most blessed person on the planet because of these photos. And that’s entirely before any Christmas presents from anyone.

I win Christmas. Totally.

Happy pictures of my family, and me and Little C? WIN.

Star Wars Holiday Special.

9 12 2010

Oh, yeah… Circa 1978. My friend invited me over to watch it.

Before I begin, I should mention that both of these show things we watched were the RiffTrax versions of the shows. (RiffTrax is amazing. Truly.)

The first thing that we watched Nestor the Long Eared Donkey. I saw some posts on Facebook by people saying the LOVED this thing.

I have no idea why. It was painfully boring. Painful. I’d rather repeat many bad nights at My Living Room than ever see Nestor again. Even with the RiffTrax.

I apologize if you love Nestor. He’s just not my thing.

Anyway, we wanted to switch to the Star Wars Holiday thing, but my friend’s PS3 hates me when I’m there and refuses to cooperate with him. (I’m not kidding, I’m there, whatever we want to watch, won’t work. Two days later? Fine & fancy. I claim the PS3 is a hater because I have a PS2.)

Anywho, my friend sets me up with a recent Glee episode that I have not seen, so I sit and watch. He goes to re-download the Star Wars thingies.

He comes downstairs, during Glee (never a good idea in his house, I’ve warned him) and he nearly has a heart attack over his dislike of Glee. I laugh. He deals with it. We both laugh about it and agree on his points. (No really, they are all over the top if you watch with someone who isn’t all Glee-loving.) They are OVER. THE. TOP.

So we get Star Wars Holiday Special going. He has warned me. That I may hate it and him afterward. About 3 minutes in I start to send out Tweets. And here you have it… I will post most of mine. Probably not all of his.

  • I may need rescued from this.
  • I don’t know how anyone watched this with out RiffTrax.

Next was a picture…

Um, yeah…

  • It was so bad I asked for a Mad Elf…

Then we had some technical difficulties. Imagine that, since I was there… And then we returned to the show…

  • I was quoted as saying “This is beyond atrocious.” (True story. It was two hours long. ZOMG)
  • Excuse me, I have to get my hair bunninized.
  • Wow. Int’l ladies garment industry union ad.

I have one last picture… Lumpy, the Wookie, I believe…. Peering down at the picture you see above…

And that was when I left. I had to. Stuff to do tomorrow. Same for my friend.

I’m so sad because I did not share my friends Tweets. Out of respect for him, and mad at myself for leaving!! But I’m sure he’ll make or allow me to watch the rest soon enough.

In case you want to watch this, on You Tube, save for the Riff Trax (which you should find, buy and do!!) Here is the linx.

You need the Riff Trax to get through it. True Story.

Favorite picture.

4 12 2010

Look! It’s my twitter friends at Brewfest! Somehow UncleCrappy got a bunch of them all together last night for a picture! I love having such FUN friends!

This might be my favorite picture ever from Brewfest.

4 12 2010

Brewfest was tonight. And it’s over. Thank everything you every pray to on my behalf. Please.

It was a grand success. I don’t have numbers. Or the fave beer, or judges top beer, or raffle prizes yet. I get to spend the next few days doing that. Go Me!

But it was a great night. Busy. Not too cramped. Lots of delicious beverages were had.

My ruggers worked their bums off. And I appreciate it.

And then many went to My Living Room.

Oy. It was so packed, I don’t even wanna go there.

Thank you for your help, your attendance at Brewfest and also to anyone who did anything to help us who reads this here blog. I love you all.

After my maths issue the next few days while counting etc, I give myself some time off, 6 months. And then I’m back at it again.

Yee haw.

Friday! Friday! Friday!

2 12 2010

Wooo boy. Tomorrow is Brewfest. Thank whomever you pray to, because good grief am I happy it’s nearly over.

I want it to be 9pm Friday night. Right. Now.

I also want to see Little C every day, so you see how I’m a big fail on the things I want, right?

Things for Brewfest are good to go. I spent today and will spend tomorrow running errands for the event.

And then, the Brewfest will happen, and if all goes well, I will have NOTHING to do that night but monitor, help the beer judges find their way through the crowds, and monitor again.

Oh, and I will get to see a zillion of my Twitter friends. 🙂 I can’t lie, I’m super, duper happy for that part.

Muchos thank yous out to the ruggers who helped so much with this. I’d list you, but it would take me an hour, and then I’d obviously forget someone, and feel like a ding dong for doing so.

So thank you all. And my tweeps for supporting my event. And every other single person who bought tickets. I love you all.

And, yes, Uncle Crappy and Father Spoon, I’m *starting* to love beer.

You’re welcome

Do you like how I somehow managed to fit Little C into this post?  I do…  (That’s my sly little way of fitting my lovely – Little C – into every post I can…) Hah. If you saw her, you’d want her in every post as well. TRUE STORY!! (also, 19 days till I see her again!)
